Instacart Driver Tools

Mileage tracker built for Instacart shoppers.

Instacart is the largest grocery-delivery platform in the US — Full-Service Shoppers (the 1099 contractor tier) shop at the store and deliver to customers using their own vehicles. Pay is per-batch with tips, and every business mile from home to store to customer to home is deductible at the 2026 IRS standard rate.

The deduction math

20,000

$14,500

Schedule C deduction at the 2026 IRS rate

Based on a Full-Service Shopper running 5-6 days/week with multi-batch days — typical for a steady part-time-to-full-time pattern. 2026 IRS standard mileage rate is $0.725/mi.

Why mileage tracking matters for Instacart drivers

Instacart batches concentrate the mileage you can't see

A typical Instacart batch is 2-4 customers across a 5-15 mile drop-off radius. The Instacart Shopper app shows the per-batch route, but multi-store batches, cancellations mid-run, and return trips home are not surfaced as 'tracked miles' — they only show up if you log them yourself.

Tipping changes earnings but not deductible miles

Tips drive your weekly take-home up or down dramatically, but the deductible-miles math is independent of pay. A driver running 18,000 miles takes the same $13,050 deduction at the IRS rate whether earnings were $35K or $55K. Tracking miles separately from earnings is the structurally correct move.

Multi-platform days blur which miles belong where

Many Shoppers run Instacart alongside DoorDash, Uber Eats, or Shipt. Manually deciding which trip belonged to which app is nearly impossible at year-end. Auto-attribution by an always-on tracker fixes the bookkeeping.

What FlexDash does for Instacart drivers

🛣️

Auto-track every batch + delivery leg

Core Motion + GPS detects the drive to the store, the in-store wait (correctly excluded from active driving), every drop-off, and the return trip home. Multi-store batches handled automatically — no buttons.

🏦

Auto-detect Instacart deposits

Link your bank via Plaid. FlexDash recognizes Instacart batch payouts, separates them from other gig income, and shows your true per-platform $/hr from bank data.

💸

Auto-flag Instant Cashout fees

Instacart's Instant Cashout charges $0.50 per cashout — fully deductible as a business expense. FlexDash catches every fee from your deposit data and adds it to your Schedule C export automatically.

Connect your bank for the full picture. FlexDash uses Plaid to auto-detect Instacart deposits and calculate your real per-platform $/hr from bank truth, plus auto-flag InstantPay/Fast Pay fees as deductible business expenses. See how bank-verified earnings work →

Frequently asked questions

Does Instacart track shopper miles for taxes?+

The Instacart Shopper app shows per-batch navigation but does not produce an annual tax-ready mileage log. At year-end Instacart issues a 1099-NEC reporting gross earnings only. Tracking miles for the Schedule C deduction is the Full-Service Shopper's responsibility.

What miles can I deduct as an Instacart Full-Service Shopper?+

Any miles driven for business at the 2026 IRS standard rate (72.5¢/mi). That includes the drive from home to your first batch's store, every store-to-customer leg, multi-store batches, repositioning between stores when batches are cancelled mid-run, and the return trip home after your last delivery.

Are Instacart Full-Service Shoppers W-2 or 1099?+

Full-Service Shoppers are 1099 independent contractors. In-Store Shoppers (the W-2 tier that only shops, doesn't drive) are employees. If you drive for Instacart, you're 1099 and eligible for full Schedule C self-employed deductions.

Are Instacart Instant Cashout fees deductible?+

Yes. The $0.50 Instant Cashout fee is an ordinary business expense and deductible on Schedule C, Line 27a. A daily-cashout Shopper pays ~$180/yr in these fees — all of it deductible. FlexDash auto-detects each fee from your bank deposit data so you don't have to track them manually.

Can FlexDash separate Instacart miles from my Shipt or DoorDash miles?+

Yes. FlexDash auto-detects the active gig app and attributes each trip to the right platform. Multi-platform Shoppers see clean per-platform breakdowns at year-end with no manual reclassification.
